Cockatoos, lories, and parrots first
appeared in the Upper Oligocene period and are currently distributed throughout
tropics, with some temperate-zone species.
These birds are usually brightly colored, Strong-flyers and eat seeds,
fruits, or nectars with very stout, hooked bills and outer toe
reversed feet. Their lengths vary from 9.5 to 99 cm.
